The Blue Mountain area has some of the best mountain biking in southern Ontario. And hiking in either summer or winter can be a great escape. A wide variety of trails can be found nearby, in addition to the Adventure Mountain Bike Centre, where you can strengthen your biking skills, or just get a lift to the top of the mountain.
Popular biking/hiking areas include (click on an area for more information):
Georgian Bay provides a refreshing escape on a hot summer day. Just minutes away, Northwinds public beach is a shallow, sandy beach popular with locals and tourists alike. Windsurfers may also want to explore Sunset Point, a public beach located in Collingwood. At 14 kms, Wasaga Beach is the world's longest fresh water beach, and it's only 25-minutes by car from Skihaus. The dunes are also unique and not to be missed.
The Blue Mountain area is a golfer's paradise. There are more than 10 courses within a 20-minute drive of Skihaus. You may want to try:
Rock climbers will find lots to challenge them at either Metcalfe Rock (on the edge of Kolapore Uplands - see Mountain Biking/Hiking above), or in the Beaver Valley at Old Baldy, which is open again after having been closed to climbing for several years. According to the Alpine Club of Canada, " Old Baldy is one of the best sport-climbing areas south of the Bruce Peninsula".
For more information on both these areas, please see The Alpine Club's Northern Escarpment Guide
The Georgian Theatre company (operating out of the beautiful Meaford Opera House) and Theatre Collingwood both offer great value entertainment in summer. Local papers normally provide details of upcoming shows.
