FoxClocks 2

FoxClocks 2 is now available for download at addons.mozilla.org. Feature requests, bug reports and general gossip are very welcome in the comments, but if you’re having a problem, please check the FoxClocks FAQ and search the comments below for a solution before posting. Thanks!

Here’s what’s new in FoxClocks 2:

  • Keep up-to-date: automatic time zone database updates
  • Behind a firewall? update automatically from your LAN
  • Choose the right time zone more easily: new Zone Picker
  • Show your clocks in the statusbar/toolbar, just in a tooltip (mouseover), or both
  • Style your clocks: bold, italic, etc
  • Set your clocks to change colour: e.g. make your clocks green from 9 to 5 local time
  • Sort your clocks by name or local time
  • Move your FoxClocks settings between computers

Let us know what you think.

  1. Mo says:

The Russia flag icon is upside down. It should be red on top, blue in the middle and then white on the bottom. Other than that, it’s great!

  2. Spear says:

The time shown for Argentina is incorrect as they did not implement daylight saving this year.
Please fix this asap as it is making this otherwise great addon an issue for us.

  3. Javier says:

Hi, the time from Argentina is bad, beacause they not use the summer time, they use the regular clock

  4. edwin says:

installed it 3 times, nothing happened! don’t see the clocks, unlike the old firefox version

  5. Monadal says:

Any possibility of seeing a metric/decimal time feature in the future?

  6. Andrew says:

I have reinstalled this addon 5 times and cannot get it to display the horizontal toolbar at the bottom of the firefox page anymore. I’ve gone into the about:config and reset the bolded bits, tried using the customize toolbar option, nothing works. Please help.

  7. Marcos F says:

Time for São Paulo, Brasil is wrong (-2.00).
Here, now, is 17:22 and FoxClocks points to 18:22. Check it, please.

  8. TC says:

    Two suggestions:
    1) It would be great to see the time difference between my ‘home’ time zone (Aus) and (US Eastern) or others. The question is often asked how many hours difference there are.

    2) A little asterisk type Daylight Saving indicator would be really useful too. This would help answer the frequently asked question during spring / autumn ‘are they on day light saving’ etc etc.

Thanks for a really elegant and useful Fx Add-on!

  9. ben says:

Phoenix,AZ does not use day light savings. Please fix. Thanks.

  10. Patrick says:

There appears to be an issue with the customised time format – it doesn’t change according to selected options.

  11. Looks like you have been sorely missed while you have been trekking in the Nepal regions, October and November It is good to be so needed. Well done!

  12. Dave Cantor says:

I’ve been using Foxclocks with SeaMonkey 1.1.x for quite a while, and it works great.
I just upgraded to SeaMonkey 2.0, and FoxClocks will not install there. Could it be revised to
    work on SeaMonkey 2.0 please?

  13. David Astor says:

I like your clocks but confused by 24 hour time. Can your program show time for “civilians,” and not in the military style? I would like to make a contribution to your site. Where do I do this? I think you accept Pay Pal.

    Thanks, David dastor@mac.com

  14. Abby says:

Hi, I am a fan of foxclocks for firefox, but I no longer like using firefox because it uses up so much of my resources. I have switched to Google Chrome and was wondering if your company will be developing the app to be used with Chrome. If and when you do, I would appreciate being notified!

    Thanks!!

  15. Mark says:

The time for Fiji is now wrong, as the Pacific Island country has just implemented daylight saving time. So a fix is needed for that.

Wonderful software, beautifully simple and incredibly useful.

BTW, would it be possible to have FoxClocks as a Windows little application? been using this since ver 1.0. thanks!

  17. Bobby says:

When will Thunderbird 3.0 RC 1 be supported?

  18. quidnunc says:

have you considered a button or check box on the configuration panel that would do a scheduled system clock update from a choice of NIST time server? Then the separate utility that I run in the system tray to keep the box time-correct could be removed, since FireFox is almost constantly open. More streamlined – more elegant

  19. Ananth says:

    Hi Andy,

Thanks for this wonderful plugin. Could you please update it to be compatible with the the latest Thunderbird beta release? I had tried it on TB 3.0 RC 1 (released on Nov 24, 2009) and RC 2 (released on Dec 1, 2009). Doesn’t work. I would really appreciate your efforts on this.

    Regards,
    Ananth

  22. Lejo says:

I see that Mark above mentioned this already, but I have already begun, so…Fiji Islands is now on Daylight Savings Time. Any chance you can make this option active?
NOTE: Daylight Savings south of the equator is opposite, so Fiji just Spring(ed) forward one hour and are now UTC+21
    Thank you, love the clocks.

  23. pettittsa says:

When the database updates itself, the pop-up saying that it has updated has a spelling mistake. The word “successfully” is incorrect.

Other than that everything is great!

  24. Don Laing says:

FoxClocks is good however have just upgraded to Thunderbird 3.0 and now Thunderbird states that FoxClocks 2.5.36 is not compatable

  25. Roland says:

I think one of the most important think witch could be added is synchronize which atomic clock.
My Computer Clock monthly be late 2 minutes. It high imprecise.

  26. Erik Wassenich says:

I downloaded FoxClocks, but I don’t like it, it is impractical and cannot easily be changed, not much thought went into developing it. Mozilla does not make it possible to uninstall it.

Please advise how to uninstall FoxClocks! You must make it possible to uninstall your ad-ons!!

    Expecting your positive reply

  27. Ron says:

    Hi,
I need to send some feedback regarding the fox clocks. It’s one of the most useful addones i’ve never seen for my best navigator: Firefox….

i would to ask to change the database. The time assigned to Buenos Aires, Argentina is wrong. Here is the Monday, January 11 Th, 11:00 AM. But clock now say: January 11 Th, 10:00 AM.

Please correct it because it is high confuse.

    Thanks in advance!

    Regards,
    Hernan Hakim

  35. Nitin Mahajan says:

    Hi

Thanks for this wonderful add-on its awesome.

The time for Buenos Aires Argentina is wrong as in 2010 there is no DST in Argentina. So please fix it in fox clocks.

    Thanks for the wonderful tool.
    Nitin

  36. Patrick says:

It would be nice to be able to select each time zone you put up individually for military time orstandard AM/PM format. For example, I like to keep my local time in AM/PM, but Universal Time is only properly displayed in 24 hour format. Right now, if I want to see UT properly, I have to display my local time in 24 hour format as well.

  37. Frank says:

    Very nice add-on, thanks :)

  38. crenvy says:

Customized time format is broken. Does anyone know the list of tags so I can change it manually?

  39. Bob says:

I would appreciate something or someway to show the Date/day of the week along with time, preferably in the “Windows” tool bar area. I am constantly holding the Mouse pointer on the “Time” area so I can see the “date/day”

  40. kibalin says:

Hello, I have a problem, i want a digital clock in mark bar like a icon, is this posible?

  41. Terry says:

I installed FireFox 3.6 and tried to install FoxClocks2, it would not download or install.

  42. Al says:

Please add an option that displays the EU flag

  43. dan says:

Is there a limit to the number of timezones tath can be shown in the watchlist? I only show 9 zones.

  44. Ken says:

How about adding more time zones (as opposed to individual cities or countries). GMT/UTC, the 4 US time zones, and a few others are already there. Specifically, I’d like to be able to display CET (Central European Time) without specifying a city. I know I could just pick any location in that time zone, so it’s a minor thing, but I’d prefer to display the time zone itself.

  45. Robin says:

Really, really useful as I have relatives all over the world I phone a lot! Thanks.

  46. This is one I should add to the FAQ. CET is explicitly GMT+1 all year, and is almost certainly not what users want. Paris et al are CEST during daylight saving time.

CET does actually exist in the FoxClocks database but there’s deliberately no user interface to add it as a clock; you have to manually edit a configuration file.

If you want to see ‘CET’ in your statusbar, add e.g. Paris and re-name it by double-clicking on it in the main FoxClocks window.

  47. To display the EU flag, open the main FoxClocks window and double-click on a
location. In the new window, use the Custom Flag options on the Display
tab – the EU flag is one of the Presets.

    Andy

  48. The custom format tags are as follows:

    <12h> – Hours, 12-hour
    <12h2> – Hours, 12-hour, 2-digit
    <24h> – Hours, 24-hour
    <24h2> – Hours, 24-hour, 2-digit
    <m> – Minutes
    <s> – Seconds
    <am> – am/pm
    <am> – AM/PM
<d> – Day of month, numeric
    <d2> – Day of month, numeric, 2-digit
<d-l> – Day of month, name
<d-s> – Day of month, name, short form
<d-ord> – Day of month, ordinal
    <d-y> – Day of year
    <d-y3> – Day of year, 3-digit
    <mon> – Month, numeric
    <mon2> – Month, numeric, 2-digit
    <mon-l> – Month, name
<mon-s> – Month, name, short form
    <y4> – Year, 4-digit
    <y2> – Year, 2-digit
    <l> – Location
    <o> – GMT offset
    <z> – Zone name
    <dst> – DST indicator (*)

    I should really document this!

    Andy

  49. Buenos Aires et all were incorrect while I was AFK (on a two-month vacation!). All time zones should be correct as of the latest time zone database (currently 2010a).

    Andy
